1. Some formats (like .nsf, .sid, .kss, .sndh) don't contain length information. The decoder/input can only use external database or give a global default length.
2. Time calculation for some formats is not very accurate, leading to long blank at the end(usually be seen in module musics like the author uses setting tempo to a very low value to end the song). Or, some formats use a specific field/tag in binary to log time and the tag is not correct.
3. Some formats (like .kss, .wsr, .hes, .adl) will expand themselves to 128 even 256 subsongs without additional information like .m3u. And a lot of them are meaningless placeholder.
4. One file contains many subsongs, but you only like a few among them or some of them are not music but sound effect.
This component is here to solve these problems by 3 features:
- Duration Manager: can let you override the length of any track
- High-Precision Timer: An auxiliary UI element for the Duration Manager that shows playback position and track length in millisecond precision: [HH:]MM:SS.mmm.
- Subsong Manager: For multi-subsong files, you can choose which subsongs are visible in the autoplaylists.
